Comfort Balancing solution
The counterweight arm can be used for the Comfort Balancing solution.
When used with a refractor/SCT/RC it is installed pointing away from the sky. When equipped with a counterweight it allows for a telescope installed on the other side of the mount head to be moved forward decreasing eyepiece height variation.
When used with a Newtonian it is installed pointing towards the sky. When equipped with a counterweight it allows for a telescope installed on the other side of the mount head to be moved backwards decreasing eyepiece height variation.
Top-mounted telescope balancing
The counterweight arm can be used for balancing a top-mounted telescope. Typically two counterweight arms will be needed – one on each side of the mount head – to get a well balanced setup. It is possible to use a 4 kg counterweight on one side and an 8 kg counterweight on the other side.
Top-mounted telescope balancing – with Comfort Balancing
It is possible to install two counterweight arms for top-mounted balancing and one arm pointing backwards for Comfort Balancing. Note that this solution is less stable than side-mounting because more weight is suspended far from the rotation axis.
