FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION
Using the mount
Is a Panther mount an equatorial mount?
No. Panther mounts use an altitude-azimuth (alt-az) design. This avoids polar alignment and the meridian flip associated with a German equatorial mount.
Do I need to polar align the mount?
No. Polar alignment is not part of the normal Panther setup. Follow the current manual and alignment guide for your specific model and firmware.
Can I move the telescope manually?
Yes. The Panther Pro is designed to combine manual movement with motorised GoTo and tracking. The clutches set the resistance in the two axes, allowing the telescope to be moved by hand while remaining in position when released. Follow the setup guide for correct clutch adjustment and balancing.
Does it have GoTo and tracking?
Yes. The Panther Pro supports motorised GoTo and tracking. Its hybrid approach also lets you move the telescope manually when that is more natural during an observing session.
Will manual Panther Lite be practical at high magnification?
Panther Lite is designed for smooth manual visual observing. At higher magnification, celestial objects will still drift and the telescope must be nudged by hand; an external DSC can help you find objects but does not track them. If you want the mount to keep an object centred after pointing, choose Panther Pro and confirm that its control and tracking workflow fits your setup.
What is Target Lock?
Target Lock is a Panther Pro feature. If the telescope is pushed away from a selected object, the mount can automatically recenter it after release. This is useful during outreach, shared observing, and eyepiece changes. It is a practical aid, not a substitute for correct setup, balance, alignment, and safe supervision of the equipment.
Can I control the mount from SkySafari, a computer, or a handpad?
Panther Pro can be controlled with the handpad, SkySafari, ASCOM-compatible PC software, and manual movement. Consult the current manuals and software page for model- and firmware-specific connection steps.
Does the mount have Wi-Fi?
Panther Pro has an integrated Wi-Fi hotspot and supports SkySafari and similar control apps. Panther Lite uses optional external Digital Setting Circle equipment for push-to guidance; it does not have Panther Pro’s motorised Wi-Fi control system.
What power supply do I need?
Panther Pro requires a 12 V DC, 3 A power supply or battery. It includes a power cable with a lighter connector. Panther Lite needs no power for manual use. Follow the current manual and use the specified power source and cable.
Can I use the mount for visual observing?
Yes. The alt-az design is intended to keep observing practical as you move around the sky, without a meridian flip.
Can I guide the mount for imaging?
Panther Pro has no ST-4 autoguider port. It supports pulse guiding through ASCOM/Alpaca. Check that your imaging software and camera support this workflow. Panther Lite is a manual mount and does not provide motorised tracking or guiding.
Is there a safe way to use it for solar observing?
Solar observing requires correctly installed, purpose-made solar filters and safe procedures for every optical path, finder, and camera. Never point an unfiltered telescope at the Sun. Follow the instructions supplied with your solar equipment and contact us if you need configuration guidance.
Ordering and delivery
How do I order?
Add the desired products or configuration to the cart and submit an order request. For Panther systems, we review the configuration before payment to confirm compatibility, availability, shipping, taxes/duties where relevant, and expected delivery time. You then receive a final offer by email before any payment is made.
Is submitting an order request a binding purchase?
No. It asks us to prepare and send you a final offer. Payment takes place only after you have received the final offer and chosen to proceed.
Why do you review an order request manually?
Panther systems are modular, high-value setups. A manual review helps make sure the telescope, pier, saddles, balancing parts, delivery destination, and final price are right before payment.
Which countries do you ship to?
We ship internationally. Availability, carrier options, shipping cost, duties, taxes, and delivery time depend on the destination and products in your order. Send an order request or contact us with your country and postal code for a specific quotation.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping depends on the selected products and delivery address. We confirm the shipping cost in the final offer after reviewing your order request.
Will I have to pay VAT, customs duty, or import tax?
This depends on the destination, customer status, and applicable rules. We will confirm the relevant treatment in your final offer.
Which payment methods do you accept?
Payment instructions and available options are provided with the final offer, right now we accept Credit Card and Direct Bank Transfer.
When will my order be delivered?
Lead time depends on the exact configuration, stock, production, and delivery destination. We confirm the expected delivery time in the final offer. Right now the shipping time is upto 3 months for a mount head.
Can I change or cancel my request?
Yes, contact us as soon as possible and include your request/order reference. We will confirm what can be changed before a final offer is accepted or work begins.
What is your returns policy?
Return rights and process depend on the order and destination. There is a 14 day window from once you have recieved the product to return it. You will have to pay for shipping back.
What warranty is included?
Track The Stars products include a three-year warranty against manufacturing defects. Please read the current policies for the full terms and contact us promptly if you need support.
Can I buy from a dealer?
Yes. If you bought the item through a dealer, contact that dealer first for order, delivery, return, and warranty handling. You can still contact Track The Stars for model-specific technical guidance.
Help after purchase
Where can I find manuals, drawings, and software?
Visit the Support page for the latest manuals, drawings, software, and setup guides. Always choose the guide that matches your exact mount model and firmware version.
I have an older Panther Original. Where do I get help?
Legacy manuals and setup guides for Panther Original remain available in the Support area. When you contact us, include your firmware version and a photo of the setup if possible.
I need firmware, software, or a cable for an older Panther. What should I do?
Contact us with the mount model, current firmware version where applicable, computer operating system, the software you want to use, and a photo of the relevant connector or cable. We can then direct you to the correct current manual, software, firmware, or compatible cable. Do not install firmware intended for a different mount model.
My mount does not align, track, move, or connect correctly. What should I send support?
Please send your mount model, serial number, controller and firmware version where applicable, power source, connected accessories/software, and a clear description of what happens. Photos or a short video are very helpful. Include any error message and the steps that reproduce the problem. Do not alter internal adjustments or install firmware for another model before we have identified the correct next step.
Can I buy a replacement cable, adapter, counterweight part, or accessory?
Contact us before ordering a replacement. Include the mount model, a photo of the existing part or connector, and what you are trying to connect. This helps us confirm the correct part and avoid supplying a cable or adapter intended for a different Panther version.
My mount needs support or service. What should I send you?
Email us with your mount model, serial number, firmware version, a description of the issue, and photos or a short video if useful. Do not disassemble the mount or send it to us before we have agreed the next step.
